Anna Cherry, Certified Nurse Midwife, WHNP-BC
I believe pregnancy and birth can be empowering and transformative. I consider it is an honor to provide care during such pivotal stages in women’s lives.Anna
Anna grew up in small town in central Illinois, the second of five children. After receiving a Bachelor’s of Arts in sociology from the University of Illinois, Anna worked for nearly a decade as a community organizer throughout the country on various non-profit and political campaigns, most recently for the Sierra Club, and for civil rights hero, Congressman John Lewis.
She is passionate about social justice issues, especially public health, environmental justice, and women’s healthcare. She met her husband, Matt, while working on Atlanta Beltline’s public transit campaign, and after they married he encouraged her to go back to school and pursue her dream of becoming a midwife.
She completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Georgia State University, and then spent for a year as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at South Fulton Medical Center before birthing her own (10 lb 10oz!) son, Max, with midwives in 2012. Anna then went on to complete a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University, and became licensed as a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Anna worked for a year as Project Manager of Atlanta Birth Center and participated in a midwifery residency with Intown Midwifery before joining our team at Providence Midwifery as a full time clinician. Anna, Matt and Max live in Midtown with their hound dog, Elmer. She loves to travel, and in her free time she enjoys reading sci-fi, playing cards and board games, and watching videos of baby animals.
